At HanziiGo, we care about your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our Chinese language learning platform ("Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

- Account information (email address, display name, profile photo)
- Learning progress and performance data (vocabulary, streaks, XP, test results)
- Usage statistics and personal preferences (selected UI language)
- Device and operating system information
- IP address (for security purposes, retained up to 90 days)
- Feedback and support messages
How We Use Your Information
Your information helps us to:
- Personalise your learning experience
- Track and display your learning progress and streaks
- Enable PvP arena battles and leaderboard rankings
- Improve the platform and content
- Send essential service notifications (e.g. password reset)
- Provide technical support
- Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
Pronunciation Scoring & AI Features
When you use the pronunciation scoring feature, your voice recording is processed as follows:
- Your audio is sent in real time to the Google Gemini API for analysis
- We do not store your voice recordings on our servers after processing
- Audio data exists only for the duration of the scoring process and is not retained
- Microphone access requires your explicit permission and can be revoked at any time
If you use the AI Tutor chat feature, your text messages are processed by the Google Gemini API to generate responses and are not stored long-term.
Third-Party Services
We may use third-party services to:
- Process AI-powered pronunciation scoring (Google Gemini API)
- Handle premium subscription payments (Apple App Store, Google Play)
- Host and deliver the Service (cloud infrastructure)
- Stream video content in Listening Dictation (YouTube)
These services have their own privacy policies and data handling practices. HanziiGo does not receive or store your payment details — purchases are handled entirely by Apple or Google.
Data Retention
We retain your data as follows:
- Account and learning data — retained until you delete your account
- Voice recordings — not retained; processed in real time and immediately discarded
- IP address logs — retained for up to 90 days
- Support messages — retained until the issue is resolved, then deleted
Security
We protect your data through:
- All data transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Passwords stored as bcrypt hashes — we cannot read your password
- Short-lived authentication tokens (JWT, 15-minute expiry)
- Restricted access to production databases
Children's Privacy
HanziiGo is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has created an account, please contact us at hanziigo@gmail.com and we will delete the data promptly.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal information
- Correct inaccurate information (update display name and photo in Settings)
- Request deletion of your data (Settings → Delete Account, or contact us)
- Export your learning progress data
- Opt out of non-essential email notifications (in Settings)
- Withdraw consent to microphone access (in device system settings)

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last revised" date above and, where appropriate, by sending a notification through the app or by email.
